Lemhi County is located in Central Idaho in (what we think is) the most beautiful part of the country. This remote, and scenic county is a relative unknown, and boasts some of the highest mountains in Idaho, along with the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states. Our friendly quality of life is unsurpassed, and our topography is amazing.
The Lemhi River starts up near the Continental Divide on Lemhi Pass, and also flows unhindered until its confluence with the Salmon River right in the city limits of the town of Salmon. This river meanders through miles of beautiful ranch country, sprinkled with old homesteads. The pastures of grazing livestock are often intersperced with wildlife including: elk, deer, wild cranes, ducks, geese and the occasional moose and bear. The fishing on this river is excellent once you get to know the best holes. We have beautiful weather with summer temperatures rarely topping 100 degrees. Our mountain valley is protected by mountain ranges to all sides, and we often miss the biggest storms sweeping in from the north, and rarely catch the weather systems coming out of the south. Winter temperatures occasionally stick below zero for a few weeks. But if they do, residents rarely mind as the sunny skies, and fantastic winter recreation more than compensate for a little bit of cold.
