General Information
What is a Jet Boat?
Our jet boats are
designed and built especially for Salmon River use. They are
aluminum boats 22 to 24 feet long and 7 feet wide. An inboard marine
V-8 engine in connected to a pump that powers the boat. Water is
drawn through a vent in the boat's bottom and is pumped out the back.
Speed and steering are determined by the amount and direction of the
thrust of water. The shallow draft allows us to go many places in
rocky rivers that a prop boat couldn't.
Stub Creek Cabins.
Located on the banks of the Salmon River in the heart of the "River of No
Return" wilderness area are two rustic buildings that serve as Stub Creek
outfitters cabins. Our cook house turn out fine western meals for
your enjoyment.
The cabins are nestled
among the Ponderosa pines and a sand bar at the confluence of Stub Creek
and the Salmon River. The nearest road is five miles upstream and
the cabins are accessible by jet or float boat only. A trail begins
behind the cabin leading to the high country and alpine lake region of the
Salmon River Mountains. |
Bunkhouses.
Our cabins are located
in the roadless, scenic section of the Salmon River slightly beyond the
Corn Creek Campgrounds (the end of the road).
They offer unexpected
comfort for up to 12 people with electric lights and hot & cold running
water.
What to
Bring. We suggest you dress warmly. Warm pants with
thermal underwear and a heavy jacket. A hat with ear flaps and a
warm pair of gloves are a big help. If you have too much clothing
you can always take something off. Boots should be waterproof and
comfortable with warm socks. Tight boots produce cold feet. A
rain suit IS a necessity as it can also act as a windbreak. A
sleeping bag, toilet articles, and fishing gear will round things out.
